Short Stack Internal Headset
 

I have a CAAD10 with a really short steertube. Right now I have the setup pictured below, with a FSA OS-115 stem with 35mm stack.
I have a Ritchey C260 stem I would like to use (especially cause it'll match the seatpost) but it has a stack of 42m.

Right now the CaneCreek headset on it has 9mm stack. For the Ritchey to work, I'd have to lose at last 5mm in the headset. It is already pretty short, but what can I get shorter?

Can I get something like this?

Right now you have absolutely zero excess steerer length with no spacers at all and you need 7 mm more height to use the Ritchey stem. There is no way those replacement headset upper caps are going to gain nearly that much.

i've got a godawful kludge on one of my bikes that accomplishes what you want. but i'm not really recommending it...

i cut about 2cm of carbon steerer off a fork where there was some excess. i then removed the expansion plug from the steerer that needed the extra length, held the 2cm piece on top and inserted and tightened the expansion plug. this gave me another 2cm. the stem's upper pinch bolt clamping area covered about half of the extra steerer. like i say this isn't for everybody, but with that expansion plug in there acting as a metal sleeve connecting the two pieces i don't worry. some would. the expansion plug i used is quite long. almost twice the length of most others i have used.

although in your case, where you have a stem that works with the steerer, as is, i don't think i would mess with it.

Buy a new fork?

The Ritchey is a 3-bolt stem, and the top bolt isn't all the way up at 42mm, so I don't need 7 more mm to make it work. I think another 5 or 6mm will work, and the 3mm Woodman cap would hypothetically give 6mm more. It doesn't seem impossible to me.

And I really can't justify another few hundred for a fork just to use a cooler stem.

Also Im just borrowing the stem on there atm, so I'd rather use the Ritchey I already own.
