Hi All

I brought a bike two days ago and have some real concerns about it ! When I first rode the bike it seemed ok, this was a short ride only though.
The second time I went out for about 4 miles and it was a real struggle indeed. The problem I have is with the disk breaks (especially the front one).

When I got the bike from the shop they told me that the pads would take there time to bed in.
But it’s at the point where you can’t ride the thing because the wheels won’t go around!!

I have added some pictures and links to some very large detail ones of the bike and the front disk, note the washes packing out the caliper and the wear on the disk already. Is this correct?

I have now wound out the pads a bit so it doesn’t bind (and the wheels go around!) but the breaks don’t work now. Also when I pull the leaver the disk flexes and bends and is pulled to the left, surly this cannot be correct?

I would really appreciate some help on this as I am new to these bikes. I have also a GT Palomer but this has no suspension or disk breaks so I cannot make a comparison.

Regards

I would definately take it back, especially with something as important as the brakes. Yes, disc pads do need bedding in and may squeal or bind, but not to the degree you mention. In my opinion (automotive technician) there are far too many washers packing the caliper out, there is obviously a mismatch between the caliper and fork leg, maybe there should be a dedicated spacer or adaptor. If this was my bike I'd go back to the shop and explain you're not happy to ride it until it's sorted, explain exactly your problem and it may help to get a second opinion from another bike shop.

Ok I have played with the calipers now and it seems to be a lot better indeed.
The problem was that the caliper was not straight on the front or the rear. Plus I had to ad a spacer to the rear as well.

Ok I had to adjust the angle of the caliper by loosening the Allen screw pictured, and then straighten the whole thing up to be in line with the disk.
