I received the Shimano Acera M361 7/8 speed Square Crankset today, and the spider is the same as my existing Octalink cranks, so started assembling. Will finish up tomorrow and then we'll know if all is perfectly compatible. I'll post pictures when I get a chance. 1st order of business if finishing it up!

Chainrings went on and the shifting on the stand is crisp - much better than the worn rings. No adjustments needed. I was a happy camper until I serviced the freehub. When I loosened the cones the hub was loose! Like floppy loose, and came off with a spin of the fingers. Glad I decided to service it. Now I don't have the right size hex to put it back together. Weird. It's a Joytech hub and I hope the local Napa has the right hex or whatever it needs. (A 10 mm hex is too small)

Total success. New chainrings worked perfectly on the old spider. I rode one of our singletracks last weekend and shifting was clean. Thanks everyone for the help.
