Was going to overhaul my wifes old Nishiki Ambush hybrid for my daughter. Tires are 28x1 3/8 x 1 5/8.
Does that translate to 700c tires? Can't seem to find a tire conversion.
Thanks.

Measure ..... 700c axle to tire bead seat .. middle of the brake track, should be 311mm

since the way they standardized was around Diameter 2x that 622mm

27" its 630 (r=315) [ less common is even larger rims. ]

my Sutherlands shows a 28x1 3/8 as 642 ... thats 700A in the French system..

glued on tires have their own labeled size system , but that does not matter, here.

True 28" tires have a bead seat diameter of 635mm as opposed to 622 for 700c, BUT, some tires in the 700x38c size are marked 28 x 1 5/8. If you are going by markings on the tires, look for another marking indicating the ETRTO size which will indicate the bead seat diameter.

Think METRIC- You won't go wrong that way.
If there's a label marked 622-xx, than it's one of the "flavors" of a 700c.

Even 26" MB tires will be marked 559-xx

1997 Nishiki Ambush... bikepedia says 26" MTB tire. two inches wide.

the dimensions on the tire may represent diameter and width of tire when mounted. if so, it's of little help in buying a tire that will fit the rim, IME.
