Shimano Sante 7 speed shifting issue
Hey guys, so I am having some trouble with a Sante 7 speed indexed rear derailleur. The problem is I cannot get onto the smallest cog and when I am in the largest cog my shifter has one more click (kicking into spokes). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Need more info- when did this start happening? After a ride? After it was parked? Did you just replace the cable? Does the cable need replacing? Have you checked the alignment of the derailleur hanger? Enquiring people want to know.

Its been taken off the bike cleaned and all new chain, cables and housing. Doing a rebuild/full service of a bike. So I have not ridden it yet just. Rear derailleur hanger does not look bent.
I know when i serviced the rear hub one side had a washer between cone and lock nut, however wheel looks center in stays.

Did you make certain that the shifter is: 1) in the lowest gear (loosest shift wire) position when you attach the shift wire, and 2) that you indeed have a 7-speed shifter? It sounds like you had one click left when you attached the wire or there is a mismatch of shifter vs cogs. Six shifter clicks=7 speed.

Sounds like you have everything offset by one click, put the shifter in the highest setting, remove the cable, and make sure your derailleur has the limit screws set properly. After that reattach the cable with both derailleur and shifter on the high setting, go from there. If that doesn't solve your problem your hub is off center or something is severely bent.

I figured it out. I believe I had to much cable tension to begin with. Also the Sante Derailleur has a little lever that limits movement of chain. It flipped up once the tension was correct and I shifted to down and not limiting me to getting on the small cog. Thanks for the responses everyone.
