Brake noise

I am getting a lot of noise from front brakes on my newly built up bike. Everything is new (except frame). Wheels are new, brakes are new. Wheels have grooved brake surface. The rear is not making any noise. Front sounds like grinding/sandpaper type of sound every time I hit the brakes. I checked pads and seem to be aligned well where they are only making contact with the braking surface of the rim.

Grinding/sandpaper noise if often caused by the pads having particles of grit stuck in then. Actually very much like what sand paper does with the grit scraping against the rim and in turn causing a build up of rim material about the bit of grit, furthering the grinding sound. Picking out the offending bits from the pads is the first step. Andy.

Some rim/pad combos need to be broken-in with a few miles of braking before the noise subsides.

I've had similar experiences with milled braking surfaces and hard brake pad compounds.
