race face crank compatibility
My bike originally came with a 3 ring front on square taper BB and the 8 speed rear. I upgraded to a Race Face ride 2x10 crankset that came with a granny and middle ring and a bash. Right out of the box I removed both rings, replaced them with a Race Face narrow wide, and ran it SS. Later I moved to a 1x8 using the same ring. Now I am wanting to change to a 2x8 setup to give me more range. Yesterday I got a 42 tooth outer ring from a friend and put it on these Race Face cranks with my original ramped 32 in the middle. Can I use this crankset with my stock shifters and derailleurs assuming they were 8 speed stuff? I plan on blocking off the front derailleur to only use 1 and 2 on my shifter.
Another issue......When running my narrow wide ring in the same spot my inner ring is now, I never had issues in any cog. It shifted smooth and rode quiet even in the largest rear cog. Now that I got ramped rings, when using the inner ring with the largest rear cog, the chain is noisy as it re engages the ring. This is on my park stand of course as I am waiting on my shifter cable to arrive in the mail. My Race Face BB has 3 2.5 mm spacers to accommodate my 68mm shell and I got 2 under the non drive side and one under the drive side. So I don't feel I can put all 3 under the left side, although that would gain me a better chainline, as it would be off balanced on my frame. Can anyone help me with both of these problems? |
