Converting 1/2" Pedals to 9/16"?

I'm have a set of 1/2" VP-550(?) platform pedals that I want to try out on my 1990's mountain bike, which takes a 9/16" thread. My idea is to replace the entire shaft in each VP-550 pedal with the proper size from an older pedal. Before I make a mess, is this going to work, or is there something I'm not thinking of?

The odds of a proper match on the axle, and whether they're serviceable at all are against you. Pedals are cheap enough that this effort isn't warranted.

A 1/2" pedal was a compromise OPC needed ... +1, just buy new pedals

there are adapters to for 9/16" pedals in one piece cranks , but the other was is just silly.

VP is a maker of cheap pedals any How..

Silly:

Bicycle Pedal Adapters

Although at $14 you may as well just buy new pedals as has been suggested...

Yes, the adapters are pretty expensive for what they do. I just happen to like the anti-slip design of these VP pedals I have in the garage. All the ones the bike shop had in stock yesterday didn't compare, and they were all MUCH heavier. They're going to get a few more in next week, so I'll just check back.

In the meantime, you guys have talked me out of getting my hands dirty.
