'77 Stingray questions

Assembled parts to build '77 Stingray. Having two issues I need help with:

1. Handlebar stem can still swivel with a little force. I tightened the top bolt to MAX. But with a little force can rotate the handlebar 360 degrees. Parts are all original.
2. Original kickstand. I inserted kickstand into the socket with the pinched end. Inserted the pin. But the kickstand does not lock - can rotate 360 degrees.

Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Sting rays used to different size stems diameters where they went into the fork. I believe you have the small diameter stem in the large diameter fork. Do you have the spring in the kick stand? There are online photos of hpw to put the kick stand yogeter and into the bike. You could also find an old copy of Glenn's Bicycle Repair Manual with pictures. Roger

facepalm! Ahh, a spring in the kickstand. that would explain why it has the grooves in it. Thanks Rhenning!
