Removing gear indicator on an Alivio shifter

Does anyone know whether it's possible to remove the gear indicator on a Shimano SL-M430 Alivio shifter? Or if not to remove it, to pop on a cover that covers it? Does Shimano even make and sell covers separately? Because I could not find any listed at any of my usual sites.

Yes, the Click and Clack method is what I would suggest. Tape is removable. I used paint on the wife's Soras. Andy.
