tyre rotation question

which direction should these tyres be running forward
left or right?

i'm guessing right, or does it matter with this tread pattern?

they're superdiamond tyres

there's no rotation arrow written anywhere on the tryes

Have you tried to run the tires both ways and find which give you greater braking/steering traction? Only on a deformable surface will the tread do anything positive anyway. Andy.

not yet andy, i'm building the bike up. well.. freshening it up.
it's a dual suspension Arkus mountain bike. i'm guessing the tyres are original. i shoulda checked how they were on the bike before changing the wheels.

but i'll keep what you suggested in mind

ive still got a ways to go, fit a chain and tuning etc.

I can't see it making much difference, even in dirt. There are flat and angled portions in the tread going either way. If all else fails, put the labels on the drive side. :thumb:

Decades ago I read something that said the chevron shaped tread on the top of the tire should point toward the front on the front wheel and toward the back on the rear wheel.

If a tire has a direction of rotation arrow, I honor that. Aside from that, I install the tire whichever way I think looks best. For example I like for the colored labels to be on the same side of the bike. Relative to performance, I think that it's real easy to overstate any benefit from tread direction.

If no direction arrow is present, I mount tiers with the label at the valve stem and on the drive side.
Esthetics aside, that will help you locate the position of a possible puncture cause relative to the inner tube.
If labels are present on both sides, then, how can you go wrong?

When mud tires have cup shaped center blocks like these, the (larger) cup points back on the ground for better pushing. Think the opposite of aero profile. On front tires it's the reverse, the cup points forward so they bite when braking.

this is how they are with the labels on the drive side, so this must be the way to mount them, thanx

this is how i mounted them, didnt look right at first but thanx for the confimation

yep the brand name labels ends up on the drive side, and must be the indication which way to fit these particular tyres

mate, that went straight over my head, passed the wicket keeper and hit the fence.

whoops edit: both tyres pictured is at the rear of the bike, the front of the bike is to the left

so thats how one rear tyre should look, and the other tyre should be turned around for the front, yeah?
