SRAM cassette depth

Anyone know of the top of their head the comparable depth of SRAM PG950 and their 10 and 11 speed cassettes? I'd like to replace my 9 with 10 or 11. Worth it even if I left off the smallest gear. Thanks!

SRAM cassette depth

If you just want a 36 tooth cog, I am pretty sure they can be had in nine-speed.

The depth on nine- and ten-speed is the same. It is the spacing between cogs that is tighter. You would need to also replace chain and shifters, and possibly even your chain rings.

Eleven-speed is a new ballgame that I am not up to speed on yet.

Looking for closer gearing for now and I can do with existing shifter. Thanks

You can't use a 10 speed cassette with a 9 speed shifter, so you are limited to 9 speed cassettes

But can you if it only shifts to one or two gears?

The spacing between cogs on a 10 speed cassette is narrower than on a 9 speed cassette. With each shift, your 9 speed shifter will move the derailleur the same distance as it would on a 9 speed cassette. The chain will be progressively misaligned with the cassette cog. You might get away with a couple of shifts but after that the chain will not engage the cog at all

Unless you're going to switch to a friction shifter, you need to match the shifter to the number of cogs. As JonathanGennick and alcjphil said, the spacing between the cogs is different.

Geez guys chill! I asked about the cassette depth - question answered. I appreciate the offer of shifter issues but I didnt ask that. Fwiw, im likely going to use bar end friction shifters ala dynaryder. Thanks
