Headset installations

I have a new phantom throne that I just bought. And I looked up online for the headset size and saw it was 1 1/8 and so I bought "the pig" headset, it was 1 1/8. But it doesn't seem to fit. Can someone give me some pointers? Or did I order the wrong size, or just anything. Thanks in advance.

Your frame has an "integrated" headset and the bearing seats are machined into the headtube ends. You bought a headset that uses pressed-in cups and it's the wrong type.

I thought these frames came with the headset included.

I just bought the frame to have a "first build" type thing

ya, your 'pig' has turned into a 'white elephant'... :)

getting a headset to fit a raw frame these days can be a PITA if you're not careful. on my last couple of frames i had the seller send me the headset that fit, just in order to save me the trouble and hopefully end up with the right one. sometimes they even asked to me to pay for it! if you can imagine that.

on a couple more frames, the fine print stated that it needed a "traditional threadless headset" (aka press-in cups, 1 and 1/8" non-tapered, i had to look it up).

it's a jungle out there... :)

don't be surprised you end up with a couple more items that don't work out. i've been doing this for years, and on recent component swap i ended up with a rotor that is of no use to me. i'm thinking of turning it into a lazy susan. and i'm not talking about my sister-in-law. one's enough.

Right, but my point was, where I've seen these frames sold on the web they list them as having an included headset in the box, so you shouldn't have had to worry about finding one that fits.
