Chipped carbon fiber - how evil? Please help!
I've got a chance at a real deal on a Colnago C40 locally - so good a deal that it might be TOO good, but that's maybe a different post. I just got back from checking out the bike, and it's immaculate - except for two small chips (as might result from being hit by flying rocks), one just above the BB shell on the non-drive side and one on the downtube, six inches or so from the headtube.
Both chips appear shallow, no more than the thickness of a fingernail, but I have basically no experience with carbon fiber bikes, and I can't tell for certain whether the CF itself has been impacted; I suspect it's just paint, but I just don't know! How worried should I be? Any advice would be appreciated!

Has the carbon weave been cut?
I think as long as the weave isn't exposed/cut then it's OK.

Photos aren't possible, unfortunately - I'm not in possession of the bike, since I'm trying now to decide whether to buy it!
Thanks-
