Sometimes innovation is a bad thing (Vuelta Zerolite XSR3 rim failure)

This is probably old news, but just in case someone's thinking about buying a used Vuelta Zerolite XSR3 wheelset, I'll post it. A friend of mine gave me one of these wheels to recycle. It has an odd spoke pull-out failure to the right side of the photo caused by an "innovative" design where they departed from the standard alternating spoke pattern, pulling from the center of the rim to a pattern where the spokes are placed side by side in adjacent holes (and without spoke hole eyelets). Compare the photos of a Mavic MA-2 from the early 1990's which I recently retired and recycled with the black Zerolite XSR3
