single serving patch glue?
 

I bought some stick on patches at Wally World with the idea of using them as a backup for my spare tube and multiple flats.

So today, had a pinch flat and I had missed half of the snake bite on my spare. Had to reach into my stash of stick on patches and the "Slime" brand patches didn't hold long enough to even get back on my bike. Passerby in pickup gave me a ride home.

I have used patch kits with glue, but the glue can dry, especially once the tube is opened I have a package of 100 rema patches, so I can roll my own spare kit if I can find the small tubes of glue. You guys may be able tg help me avoid endless hours searching if you know where I can get some.

Even though I've seen posts saying that stick-on patches can be used with careful preparation and suspect that Park brand patches would be much better, I gave up on stick-on patches long ago. Glue at the least is more forgiving about preparation.

Yep, I've never heard a good reason why I should want to use a patch that I will need to replace once I get home, if it even gets me there.

As far as the tube of glue carried on the bike, I only crack it open in case of emergencies. The best approach is to save up a bunch of punctured tubes and patch them all in one batch at home, with the same tube of glue. That way, you'll have plenty of spare tubes to draw from until the next round. :thumb:

Push the air out of the tube before replacing the cap. It lasts much longer.

At one time there was a patch kit with a tiny bulb containing the glue. Good for one patch. The kits were on a couple patches with the bulb of glue and a tiny scraper seal packed on a card. Also use to be that you could easily get little tubes of glue separate of the complete patch kit.

I like Bill's suggestion. But when you've gone through the two spare tubes you carried already you really want that tube of glue to be good still. Andy.

Just be sure that what you get is vulcanizing fluid, intended for patching tubes; plain rubber cement is not the same thing and will not work nearly as well. Vulcanizing fluid contains a sulfur compound which causes a chemical reaction with the tube and the patch and causes them to permanently bond.
