Threads from my tire.

I have Michelin Axial Sports tires. I noticed when checking them out for damage that I have threads coming out of the side of the rear one. It is wear the black tire part meets the tan side portion.

Does this mean I need to get a new tire or is there something else I can/should be doing?

Thanks.

Well if your showing threads, and they
are sticking out, get a new tire!
rotate your front tire to the back and
put the new one up front. Better yet,
replace em both.
Better to be safe than sorry.

This is fairly common in that location. Snip the threads rather than pulling them off. If the side wall should develop loose threads (a sign of age) they will become more susceptible to puncture and probably should be replaced. For now, you are probably OK.

Broken rubber (treads) and broken inner threads are two different things.

You can repair and ride tires with broken rubber.

You can ride tires that have threads SHOWING as in the gumwall cracked or deteriorated.

However, if the threads are broken and frayed out through the outside of the tire, the tire is shot. You can ride it for awhile, but anticipate it failing.

Thanks for the info. I am going to replace the tire. Rather not play with it.
