Headset Problem
My wife's Surly LHT has a Cane Creek headset. When I look the front brake and rock the bike I get movement in the fork at the bottom of the head tube. I have loosened the stem and snugged up the draw bolt to the point where the steerer tube is too tight turning back and forth. But yet the play is still present at the bottom of the head tube.
I built up both our bikes and mine is fine. We are getting ready for a tour in 3 weeks and wondering how to proceed. FB are you out there!!! |
You may have one of the cartridge bearings upside down.

tear it down.. is the lower headset bearing holder Loose and falls out of the frame, when you pull the fork?
shim around it so its snug fitting in the head tube |
Thanks! Will do a tear down this weekend. Fietsbob, the bearing holder does not appear to be loose.

Any chance you didn't install the "crown race" (i.e. the lower bearing support shelf)?
