Making junk

I just spent an hour turning a new set of Jagwire cables into a pile of junk that will require replacement. How has your evening gone?

I've made worse mistakes with more expensive materials. It's always infuriating, but in the big picture, the risk of screwing up is just part of the cost of doing business. We usually still come out ahead in the long run.

What Bradleykd says. I just look at my mistakes as "tuition".

I pay tuition regularly.

My evening went fine.

Do you want some advice or did you just need to vent?

If you ask some specific questions the good folks on this forum will likely try to help you.

One piece of free (unsolicited but perhaps relevant) advice: remove the inner wire from the housing BEFORE cutting the housing to length. Don't ask how I found this out!

Add my name to the list. I've been fooling around with bike mechanics for almost 50 years and I'm still paying tuition.

A bicycle is a simple machine but the details evolve faster than I'm able to master all the new stuff. I kind of like it that way. I hope that I can continue to screw stuff up and continue to learn from it for a long time to come.

Just convert a short rear cable into a long front cable
