Tire cut thoughts

Conti GP 4000 II great tire not flats 5000 miles. I see this cut int near sidewall no budging at all but what do you think. Rear tire not worried but does it look like best to replace. Holding 120 psi still had miles on wear indicator.

Squirt some super glue or shoe goo in there and it'll last a while longer.

I see few/no cut threads and no bulging so the carcass integrity is likely not compromised. I'd fill the cut with Shoe Goo or similar to keep the fabric from being abraded and ride it.

is there a hole on the inside of the tire, or no?! if not, just dismount the tire and crazy glue the hell out of the outside hole, then let it dry for about 15 minutes and re-mount it. don't worry about any excess glue on the tread, the road will wear it away smooth after the first ride on it...

i've also heard shoe goo works well, but i've only done it with crazy glue. you may be able to find a how-to with shoe goo on youtube though...

I've never had crazy glue last even one whole ride. It's too brittle and just pops out. Shoe Goo is flexible and could last longer. But then you have an open tube of glue and it'll be hardened before you need to glue another tire. But maybe your shoes are worn and you can use some of it there.

I'd boot it with a folded dollar bill, and keep riding. (I tried to make a permanent boot with a Park Tool plastic boot, but the hard edge cut my tube after a few weeks. That's why they tell you it's a temporary patch.)

Instead of booting it with money go to the post office and get one of their free postage fiber envelopes and boot it with that. I cut up a few and keep in my patch kit also.

I'd replace it but I guess it depends on your finances and riding style. Sure you can try the other recommendations and extend its use but I wouldn't risk it if you're hammering high speed turns with your local shop ride.

Replace it . I would rather replace it at the comfy of home then out there on the road . Besides , Cont GP4000s are on sale all the time and it is not expensive at all .

I would never ride a tire like that. It may be perfectly safe but I wouldn't trust it.

I've got several 40mph+ downhills on a few of my weekly rides, so I don't screw around and try to get a few extra weeks of life out of an almost dead tire.

I buy tires as cheap as I can on ebay, so I just take the hit and replace stuff like this immediately. A tire is cheaper than my copay!! ;)

I don't see any cut threads -- I'd be totally comfortable smearing on a little Shoe Goo for protection and continuing to ride it on the back.

5000 miles on it? How much are you going to save stretching it further vs the potential risk?
