marz Z2 sounds

I can hear the mechanism of the shock work as I ride. It does not seem to be broken, it shocks just fine, but I wonder if this is due to old springs. Is it? If so can I replace the springs? I don"t know how to describe the noise any better, it's the sound of an object with moving parts.....moving. I did play with a new bike today and noticed it was not making a noise like mine. Granted it was new and mine is around nine years old and I don't remember the type, it may have been air only. It was on a mid level priced bike say between 700 and 1000 or so. Any comments would be appreciated.

When was the last time the fork was taken apart and serviced?

Does the fork have any type of oil cartridge or dampening? Is the sound you are hearing a gurgling? If so, it's probably the oil working its way through the dampening. If it's just springs, it might just need to be greased up. If not, it's hard to tell without knowing exactly what the sound is. To answer your other question, yes you can usually replace springs, but with a 9 year old fork, they might be hard to find.

The fork was in the shop about three weeks ago for an oil change/service. The mechanic said trhe shock appeared to be in great shape for it's age. As the shock was new to me I did'nt inquire about the noise. Only after a few rides did I begin to wonder if this was normal. I just went out and listened, it does seem to be oil squishing around. I am going to chalk this up to an old design and if it ever breaks, replace it then. Thanks.
