Gear Question
This is kinda technical but I need to know something. Single speed gear 36/22 vs 40/24. Which ratio would be EASIER to pedal? (less resistance on pedals). According to an internet bike calculation site the 40/24 is a tiny bit higher than 36/22 but I was wondering if the large 24t rear freewheel would actually make the 40/24 easier. Bike has 26x1.75 tires if that matters.
Or would the amount of leg strength required to pedal the bike be about the same with either ratio.

Only the ratio matters, the lower ratio will be an easier gear. The size of the rear cog is relevant only in relation to the chainring in front.

40/24=1.666
36/22=1.636
1.666/1.636=1.018.
40/24 is 1.8% "higher". Pretty meaningless.
