Stripped Allen Pedal - Help!
I installed XTR pedals on my road bike so I could wear shoes that I could walk in when I ride to work. Now that I have a commuter I want to put my road pedals back on. The pedal wrench failed (I failed most likely) and now this is rounded. Vice Grips wont grip the shaft and I am not that good with a drill and afraid of ruining the threads. This is the drive side pedal. Any suggestions

Take the crank off the Bike , tear the pedal down to the spindle alone .
Clamp the pedal spindle in a bench Vise . so It will Not Move.
Un screw the crank arm from the pedal spindle .
throw the pedal spindle away, Buy a new pair of pedals .
Put the crank arm back on the Bike.

...And grease the threads this time.

If I pull the Allen bolts holding the left crank arm to the spindle will I need additional tools to remove it or should the entire assembly slide right out?

Angle grinder to grind flats on the axle so it can be grabbed with a wrench.

There are a number of things relating to bicycle "progress" and evolution that makes me wonder if bike engineers checked their brains at the door. This issue is one of them.
Pedals had wrench flats for a century and they've served us well all hat time. Then someone had a brainchild and added the ability to install them faster with a hex key, which was 100% to the good. But, at some point somebody decided that now that you could use a hex key, there was no need to spend the dough to also include the "old fashioned" wrench flats, and that's were a good idea went bad.
IM(NSH)O any pedals without wrench flats are inherently defective, but that's just me being me.
Meanwhile, you might be able to free these with an air impact wrench using a new hex bit. Be sure to turn in the right direction (clockwise for right pedal, the direction is reversed because your point of view is). BTW- turning in the wrong direction might be your issue.

Try tapping a torx bit in there. Often this will grab it enough to undo the axle. Also Allen head wrenches tend to get sloppy with enough use causing some of the stripping so make sure the wrench corners are sharp and if not you can always grind it down a bit until you have a fresh portion of the wrench to work with.
