Yes, no, maybe - you need to ID the hub, if it's from around 2013 on, possibly, if earlier, probably not, if your lucky, you will be able to get a replacement freehub,

I think for Campagnolo the answer is "yes" more often than for Shimano/Sram.

A "standard" Shimano/SRAM 8/9/10 freehub will not fit an 11.
An 11 freehub will fit all of the above with/without appropriate shims.

If it's a Mavic wheel it probably will fit. But you'll need to give us a little more information for a full answer.

+1

But I think an 11S cassette will fit on a Mavic 8/9/10 speed freehub.

For SRAM/Shimano, if there was a thin metal spacer behind the 10 spd cassette the 11spd will fit. If the 10 spd cassette fits without the spacer the 11spd won't fit.

Not exactly.
The 10 speed cassette uses a thin shim (about 1mm) on an 8/9/10 freehub.
The 10 speed cassette uses about a 2 or 2.5mm shim on an 11 speed freehub.

I'm not at home, so I can't measure now, but there has always been a shim with 10 on 10.

The key spec for Shimano 11 speed compatibility is HG (hyperglide). Mountain cassettes aren't HG spaced. So even if the newest 11-spd mountain cassette fits, the 11-spd HG still won't fit and you can't index a non-HG cassette with HG shifters, the standard for Road cassettes.

That is one reason why it is possible to shift a 10-spd HG cassette on an 11-spd HG hub (with a spacer inserted behind the cassette) but not the other way around.

Ok got it Ty. Next question
What spacing is needed on the rear triangle to fit a 11 speed wheel ? 140 mm?

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought the spacer was only to mount 10spd cassette on a 11spd hub.

130mm for road hubs. 135mm fits mtn hubs. Some bikes are spaced in between. Axle width didn't change with the addition of 11-spd road cassettes.

Of course, there are other standards, 142 thru axle for one. There's a huge axle standard for Fat bikes.

Road has been 130mm since the very early 1990s. 126mm was 7-speed and less.

The first Shimano 10 speeds were unique; neither the cluster nor the hub could be used with anything else...

You really need to be specfic here, are you talking road or MTB, and which hub.

If MTB, an 11 speed cassette will fit on a 10 speed hub (as long as it's not XD 11), if road, which hub & frame do you have?

In both cases, the frame has an impact on the OLD, for road, this will could be 130mm, 135mm or 142mm, MTB 135mm, 142mm, or 170mm

With the info you have currently supplied, it's just a guessing game, as you haven't supplied any.

For MTB it could also be 190mm, or 177mm, or 197mm with through axle. Or 150mm, or 165mm. And there was a 160mm, but that was mostly used for tandems, like 140mm and 145mm. I guess we should include the 148mm Boost, but the OP said it has a 10spd cassette so it is unlikely it is boost.

I think we can discount 120mm Hubs, those are freewheel only. But I think there were some 126mm that may have fit an 8-9 spd cassette.

OLD (correctly O.L.D.) = Over Locknut Distance Bicycle Frame/Hub Spacing

You need to re-measure, as your bike should be 130mm, given the year, and it's type (CX),

Given this info, it would suggest that a 11 speed cassette won't fit the hub if it's OEM spec 2000 Kona Jake the Snake - BikePedia

That Kona should indeed be a 130mm. And like jimc101 said, if it has the original Shimano rear hub it won't fit an 11spd cassette.
Did you measure the inside of the rear triangle? Because from outer face of drop out to outer face it may very well be 140mm. But from inner face to inner face it should be 130mm.

Measured it again. Yes it's 130 mm
So it's safe to say a 10 speed wheel hub will fit ?
