New Trek DS ridden less than a mile. Made a couple shifts and now shift levers are locked up. Can't move them or make any shifts. Anyone have a clue?

I had that problem with my front derailleur. I discovered that the spring at the bottom of derailleur (hidden from site) had rusted enough to seize up. A little WD40 and moving it back and forth restored it to normal. To see the spring I'm talking about, you will need to turn your bike upside down, backyard mechanics style.

I see (after searching for images of bikes like yours, time spent looking for details you could have provides first) most if not all of the DS bikes have two ders. A front and a rear. So for each to fail is quite unlikely. can you still pedal the bike? Could be that the chain is jammed and the shifters are actually still functional, if only the chain could move. Like FB I really don't know.

Either way, they can help. It's entirely possible that there is something very simple and easy to fix at the root of the issue, a professional will sort it out for you. Without being able to see and touch the bike it is near impossible to say. One thing is for sure, tinkering with it without being familiar how it works or how to troubleshoot it can cause significant, possibly catastrophic damage. And when you go to the LBS, take beer. |
Take it back to the shop you bought it from. Probably user error, I'm betting you threw the chain or jammed it somehow.
