Conflicting Tubeless Rim Tape Sizes

I am going tubeless for the first time. I bought a SRAM tape and valve kit and did not like the tape. There were manufacturing problems with the tape where it had tears at random spots so I ended up throwing out the tape after four tears came up on the same rim.

Now I am looking at WTB and VeloFuze tapes. I have 19mm inner width rims. WTB recommends 24mm tape and VeloFuze recommends 19mm tape.

Anyone know why there is such a big difference in their recommendations? The tape is just to cover the spoke holes, so why would WTB recommend such wide tape?

I like the tape to extend up the inner sidewalls of the rim to have the tire bead cover the edge of the tape and prevent any possible leakage under the edge of the tape. I have used Stans and Velofuze and like them both.
