Cassette Changing - Any further adjustments needed ?

I have a 9 speed Campag Chorus groupset.

Currently on the bike is a 26/13 cassette. I also have a 23/13. If i switch them over would i need to do any further adjustments to the rear derailleur ? or the chain, given it will have extra slack on it.

I always count on making minor adjustments to derailleurs after changing cassettes, even like for like, due to manufacturing tolerances. Also, when changing to a different large cog, the "B" screw should be readjusted to optimize shifting. I would leave the chain alone if only to enable a switch back to the original (size) cassette. If the derailleur handled the slack before it will handle it with a smaller large cog just fine.

The different size is no issue. You're going smaller on the large end, and it means you have the OPTION to shorten the chain, but no obligation to. Likewise with all adjustments, since the 23t is the same size as the 2nd position on the 26t cassette, and obviously there wasn't an issue before.

OTOH- cassettes don't always fit in the identical position on the freewheel body, so some minor trim adjustments may be called for to maintain optimal shifting.
