Sram & Shimano cassette

Hi there,

Just needing a bit of advice on cassettes.

is Shimano and Sram compatible (cassette), So if i had shimano gearing would an sram rear wheel be able to be used? and vice verse?

Or do I need to change the cassette on the wheel to suit which ever gears I have?

Thanks

They are cross-compatible. I have used SRAM and Shimano cassettes interchangeably for years.

Agreed with Jeff. But when swapping wheels do the right thing and check the rear shifting in case the "new" cassette is slightly different then the first one. Not all hub/freehub are the exact same and these days only a few hundredths make the difference. Andy.

Thanks Andrew,

With the shifting, will all it need is a slight adjustment and should be good to go?

Cheers

I always count on making small adjustments to the limits (inner limit is very important) and indexing adjustment, even when replacing like for like, due to manufacturing tolerances and slight design differences when changing manufacturers.
If your chain is quite worn it may skip on the new cassette and will need replacement in this case. But see if this happens first, if the chain works OK then you are good to go.

As Andy said, these things are never perfect. I've replaced Shimano with Shimano and had to readjust. Then again, I've replaced SRAM with Shimano without readjusting. Bicycles are simple devices, but they're never perfect. Be prepared to fiddle.
