middle chain ring to settle with chain?
With middle chain ring. I got a new chain and middle chain ring is a bit older. Question I have Is
is it possible to just let chain wear a bit. As chain does occasionally skip on the middle chain ring. I cant really change to a new chain ring as the bolts are all stripped. Would the chain finally settle and stop skipping over time, if i just ride more? bike 2011 Rocky Mountain Element As i was trying to replace the chain ring, i got a new chain, as old one was quite worn once i put new chain on, when under pressure, the chain skips from middle chain ring. |

Also, have you oiled the chain? It came oiled, but a little more may help. |
I've seen posts from experienced mechanics, saying that a couple hundred miles may let a chain wear just enough to stop skipping.
But the odd thing here is if it is really skipping on the chainring. Every time I've had skipping, it was on the rear cogs. Worn chainrings have always caused chainsuck for me, (i.e. the chain "sticks" to the chainring and gets jammed into the underside of the FD). |
Not replacing the ring will increase wear on the new chain and sprockets. But it's safe to ride. If you plan on keeping the bike, it'd be best to do the middle ring sooner than later.

More likely that the skipping is on the cassette/freewheel, not the chainring. Probably skipping on the more frequently used (worn) cogs.

forgot to mention, when i replaced the chain, i replaced the rear cogs/cassette as well, so only thing older were front chainrings,
things work fine with my small chain ring and big one, just middle there is some skipping when under force, like climbing etc. |
