Crank question
 

I bought a Jamis Exile III off ebay. I was concerned about the seller rebuilding the bike, but made offer and it was accepted.
Bike was in overall great condition except the Shimano X5 2x10 crank was stiff.
Upon tearing it down I noticed that the bearings I.D.s are very shightly larger then the crank---.010/.015?
The bearing next to sprocket has a plastic shim that looks factory and creates a snug fit, but the outer bearing has "play"
When I tighten it all up there is a slight amount of play but crank spins free.
To remove crank arm, you remove a Hollow plug and then remove the mounting screw and slid arm off a 10 tooth spline.
I have done extensive searches but can't find this exact setup.
Anyone familial with this crank?

I see there is a SRAM X5. Is that what you have?

I presume it is Octalnk or ISIS.

Keep in mind there are a couple of different splined bottom brackets, and you must select matching parts.

I got lost with the bearing ID being larger than the crank. Everything should fit snugly.

Yes, an X5 is a SRAM crank.

With regard to the bearings, are they sealed bearings, or are they in cages? If they are sealed bearings they should be a snug press fit around the spindle and inside their retaining rings.

You have a GXP bottom bracket and that hollow plug is actually a self extractor that doesn't get removed. You loosen the mounting bolt and it presses against the self extractor to pull the arm off. The plastic spacer in the drive side is a factory part and needs to be there. If you are missing the splined washer/dust seal(pic below) on the non drive side, there will be play no matter how tight you make it. This system differs from the Shimano system in that the spindle has a shoulder on the non drive side that captures the non drive bearing between the shoulder on the spindle and the crankarm to remove any side play.

Google for SRAM X5 crank and the top hit is the SRAM page for the X5 crank.
On that page is the installation instructions. You have a GXP bottom bracket.

The GXP cranks have different spindle diameters on each end. 24mm on the DS, and 22 on the NDS with a bearing ID to match. If the bearing ID is too big on the NDS, possible the previous owner installed a Shimano cup and bearing in that location. You did say he "rebuilt" it?
