Remote Lockout?
I have just bought a new schwinn rocket 2 MTB. I am very new to the sport and so far loving it. I have done all my own work on the bike so far. Heck I enjoy tinkering with it almost as much as riding. The bike has a suntour xcm HLO(lockout) 100mm travel fork on it. How much trouble $$$ would it be to add a remote lockout? Found the levers and they are reasonable priced. What else is required? I search on the net I found very little info. Thanks for any help

I don't really think it'd be possible on that fork. You'd have to change out the cap for the lockout as there's no place to mount a cable like on RockShoks.
As for whether it's worth it? Well, do you often transition between fire road/pavement to rocky trail? In all honesty, all of my friends who work at the bike shop and have remote lockouts (on their $4-$8000 bikes) say they almost never lock out the front suspension on their bikes. On climbs the front unlocked is nice because it's hard to pop over big rocks or roots if it's locked. (Ones that can't be avoided.) Having the suspension not locked also makes it easier to not do a wheelie going uphill (a common complaint of new riders.) I personally have never locked my front suspension. I have no reason to. All of the trails I ride on are rocky both up and down. (And I almost never ride my mountain bike on a road.) |
In case someone in the future wants to do this. I finally gor a hold of Suntour. There is no way to upgrade any other lockout switch to a remote lock out. The fork has to come already equipped with the remote lockout.

Yea, Replace with one that they included that feature from the beginning..
OEM cost deals are better, but they are sales Quantities of Truckloads . So shop for a whole bike with the lockout fork. My Trekking bike came with a stiff short travel fork it only moves with a good-sized Bump.. |
