8 spd to 9 spd new der.
I just read in the raod bike forum that you do not need a new deraller if converting from 8 speed to 9 speed.how true is this?

The front derailleur guides the chain from the sides. 9-speed front derailleurs are a tiny bit narrower than 8-speed. I'm told the difference isn't a problem for double chainring conversions but I've found it necessary to use a 9-speed front derailleur when converting a triple.

no, i was just trying to get info from more than one source. my thought was that a 9 speed chain may not run thru the pullys properly, being that it is a hair smaller.
