Ksyrium rim: Can I remove this?

On my new Ksyrium SLE rim there is a little piece of electrical tape, directly across from the valve stem (see image). Not sure what's underneath. Can I remove it? (Imagines rim crumbling to pieces with removal )

Not surprisingly, Mavic support contact (hidden many layers deep on their website to begin with) hasn't responded in over ten days.

Thanks in advance for any informed advice.

It's where the weld is, guessing underneath that, is a un-painted/anodized section of the rim. the tape is there for cosmetic reasons

If you remove the tape the world will stop spinning and earth will end as we know it. Andy.

Not quite in all detail, but very, very close.

As I suspected! Thank you Andy. Disaster averted.

Thanks Jim. Bugs the crap out of me, but probably less than seeing an unpainted, anodized section would. Perhaps I'll leave it (and the universe) be.
