105 5700 rear derailleur on 11s cassette?

I upgraded my wife's bike to 11 speed. After I ordered everything I realized that I'm dropping her cassette lowest gear from 34 to 28. I got the 105 5800 short cage but the bike came with a 5700 medium cage rear. Is there some reason why the 5700 medium cage won't work on a 11 speed cassette if I swapped it to a 11-32?

I don't have direct experience, but I've been under the impression that Shimano 11sp has a different cable pull and can no longer be mixed with older parts.

It won't work. I've tried it and the cable pull is different. You may be able to swap the pulley cages to make the 5800 a medium cage.

In my experience you can always fit a 30t with a Shimano rear rated for 27 or 28 and that works fine.

A 32t might fit if you pull out the B screw and put it in backwards. Depends on your frame and RD hanger
