Crankset compatability
 

Quick question. I am running a 105 10 speed groupset and really like the look and weight difference that the 5800 crankset offers over the 5700. Will the 11 speed crankset work well with the 10 speed group? I figure for around 100 bucks it would be a nice upgrade.

1. 28.4 grams per ounce. Unless you are changing a lot of parts, how much weight are you dropping on the bike?

2. On the other hand, I generally stop reading after the "I like the looks" part. Honestly, that's a good enough reason for me. You just have to decide if that's important enough to you for the money.

Well, "The Look" of the 5800 lets you put on any size ring from 34 to 53, so that's a big advantage over the 5700.

Thanks for all the replies. 5800 crankset is about 115 grams lighter. Almost a quarter of a pound. And as I said I really like the look much better.

I recently did a very similar replacement. I originally had a Campagnolo Centaur Ultratorque 10 speed crank and changed to the newer 4 arm style Chorus 11 speed crank. Shifting is, if anything, better than it was before. I made the change because I wanted to move to a compact crank setup for an upcoming trip to Europe and I felt the need for lower gearing. I don't know or care if the new crank is lighter than the old one

Unless it's a 5703 and you can use almost anything from 24 to 53. :)
