Schwinn Paramount question
Hey all, I just picked up a 1992 Schwinn Paramount in beautiful condition for $225. I'm planning on cleaning it up and re-selling it. The bike is blue with red specs in it. My question is, what color bar tape was originally on this bike? It currently has red. I was thinking to use black. What is the consensus? Thanks all

Black tape is most practical. Not sure if the bike at the bottom of the pic is the model you have (more than one Paramount, PDG model, etc, that year) but white tape is shown on it. Not practical, but looks good for a few rides.

Not sure about in the 90s. But back in the 70s that Schwinn line...Paramount, Varsity, Collegiate, etc...generally had bar tape that identically matched whatever color the frame was.

Since you say you're going to sell the bike, I'll tell you this: I sell bicycles for a living, and I've had customers request a change of bar tape color, before purchasing a bike, from just about any color you can think of.....the color they always want it changed to is black. YMMV. I've never, ever had someone ask me to change black tape to something else before a purchase. From black to something else on a bike they already own, just to change things up for a while? Sure. But never before a sale. I like to think this means they can actually see themselves riding the bike a lot.

The catalog looks like they used white bar tape. Forum tradition would suggest you use "flipper blue" bar tape (inside humor). I think black would look fine for resale.

I think I'd seen that bike on CL... and posted it:
Really glad it went to someone who can appreciate it.

thats actually great info well biked. I know this isn't the forum but what do you think this bike would be worth? 1992 Paramount series 3 with rx100 components. Figured I'd get the info right from someone who does this for a living. I'd provide pics but my iPad is acting up

$400 is pushing it, unless the bike is all original, in like-new condition, and you are willing to wait for that perfect, once in a Lifetime Buyer.
These bikes trade hands for anywhere between $150-$300 all day, depending on the condition and originality.

FWIW, I paid $300.00 for the "mint condition" -as in totally like new and unmolested without a scratch on it- 58cm PDG-5 that is my current mount.

The PDG Group,, were the Asian built Paramount family of bikes. Guess they were fighting for Trek & Cannondale buyers then.
