Single-streaming makes economic sense if the labor saved (the citizens') is worth more than the labor hired (the sorters'). Considering our employment rate and that the people who would hire as sorters are probably those who suffer the most from it, if we were willing to pay for them to do this job I'd be for it.

Mr bradtx, however, has to do as much work to discard a tire in the trash as in the recycling bin. The city of Pearland's website doesn't list tires in its recyclables, so for the same amount of work he can avoid a bit of labor for the sorters.

The City's Recycling Center isn't affiliated with Western Waste and I do need to sort items when dropping off there. So I suppose you feel I should just trash the bicycle tires? WW will leave items in the recycle bin and attach a note if an item is not considered recyclable.

If Western Waste doesn't recycle bicycle tires (if they did, they would be the first general recycler I have encountered that does) then putting tires in the recycling bin makes WW carry them away and discard them, which is work for them; discarding them yourself would save that work and make no additional work for you. Pearland tells me what it recycles. I suspect WW does too. That they haven't put a note on your bin when they've found one may not have been worth the effort; then again, perhaps they do.
