Problem with axle/bearing
So stupid me i decided to work on my bike without the proper tools. I ordered a new cassette for my road bike, I knew that I had a lockring tool. When I came home at 11 pm to see the new cassette at my house is felt compelled to replace it. Lockring tool was no where to be found so I search the Internet for alternative ways. I tried a couple then got to one that told me to remove the axle. Well I did, still couldn't get cassette off that way so I gave up figure I'd order the tool. Well know if it's too loose it has play but when I tighten it it's not a steady resistance, kinda like a resistance surges planning on bringing to shop today, but I'm hoping someone here might be able to tell me what and how I screwed up

First question: Are you SURE that your bike needs a cassette? Many, maybe even most, derailleur bikes have the rear cogs connected to a freewheel which requires a completely different removal process.
Variable tightness of the axle sounds to me like the axle could be bent. That's a common issue on freewheel equipped bikes.

It was perfectly fine before I removed it. I brought it to the shop we'll see what he says. I bought a new cassette because the last gear had damaged teeth. Guy at shop didn't mention anything about it needing freewheel
