Double bolt seatpost clamps
 

I am rebuilding a cheap tandem (don't judge - it cost me $20 and I've put another $30 in it).

Everything else has been cleaned up, repaired, or replaced with affordable parts or stuff I had laying around. It's riding really well, at least as well as a cheap tandem can.

The seatpost clamps are double bolt. They were extremely tarnished and I have been unable to get them looking good. I'm having a hard time finding replacement clamps that won't cost an arm and a leg to ship, and that aren't ugly as hell colors (no silver or chrome, just oddball colors).

Any reason I can't replace the clamps with single bolt or even quick release clamps?

I'm not sure what you are describing, the saddle rail clamp on the seatpost or the clamp on the frame that holds the seatpost height? Pictures would help.

Once while cleaning up and polishing the parts on an old bike I discovered one small chrome part had apparently corroded. So much so a previous owner had spray painted the part silver. It was almost unnoticeable.

That's my plan B.

A newer single bolt seatpost clamp should work fine. Measure the OD of your seat tube where the clamp goes over it and buy the correct diameter clamp.

Thanks. I couldn't see why there would be a problem but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

The stainless steel Ones out of Surly should work . single bolt threaded into steel

I have used a second band clamp , directly around the seat Post . sitting on top of the frame clamp that grips the seat Post.

If 1 doesn't stop slipping , that fixed it ... (folding bike 2 QR levers on top of each Other .

How to double the value of your bike.

In rare instances where there is no slot in the seat tube, a double bolt clamp is needed. In most cases a normal clamp will work.

Found the Surly clamps for $25.12. So not including shipping, it doubles it and then some pennies on top.

I will check the tubes and verify, but I think they are typical slotted tubes.

FWIW, the clamp you pictured is marked GT and appears to fit a 1" tube. It's what they would have fitted to their old school BMX bikes. So it's not an original part anyway.

I just grabbed the first "used" pic I could find, rather than a sparkling new clamp, trying to avoid confusion (and created some instead).

Thanks to everyone who helped on this thread. Hillrider reminded me to size the clamp correctly, which means I need a 28.6 clamp (just guessing; will verify at home) rather than a smaller diameter. Amazon has several double bolt clamps in that size, if I can't use a single bolt clamp. Pricier than I'd like but I'm sure I can find some for under $10 now if need be.
