they switched from a floating top pulley a fixed somewhere along the way, not sure when.

I ran the 7800 Dura Ace pulleys on my 6600 RD and they worked really well being from the same generation of components. They are ball bearing rather than bushings.

I'm pretty sure all the Ultegra pulleys still have bushings, at least for the top pulley. No doubt less float with the newer designs.

Both 6600 and 6700 are rated at 10s, so they should be a pretty good match.

6800 probably will work, but it might be a little narrower. I'm not sure I've tried mounting a 6800 on a 6600 as the pulleys last for quite some time.

If it was me... I'd probably buy the 6800, just to see how well it works.

I switched to the TACX brand pulleys. They have three versions for the 66/6700; steel bearings, stainless steel and ceramic also in order of cost. The advantage of these is that they come with sealed cartridge bearings so maintenance free and last as long as the Shimano OEM, IME. The ceramics are a waste of money and the plain steel seem to do fine but I don't live in a very wet climate either. They're also slightly cheaper than the Shimano if you shop around.
