Internal cable rear break issue
 

Dear All,

I just bought a cube peloton 2014 with inner cable routing. When I use my rear brake, and I'm listening at the frame I can hear a little noise that the cable touches the frame/or something "steelish". Do you think it may cause damage in the frame or does it cause any problem inside the frame?

Take a junk bike frame and try to saw it in two with a brake cable. See how long it takes you. Now measure your brake cable pull. Figure out how many cycles it would take to match your first experiment.

To be honest with you, I've never had a bike frame that didn't last longer than I wanted it to last. I'm always lusting for something new long before the old one wears out. That's why it's so easy to find a junk bike frame for the first experiment.

This is definitely a hazardous situation. Please send the frame to me for proper disposal ;-)

Back in the 90's, Trek used to have the rear brake cable internally routed through the top tube on their bonded aluminum and carbon bikes. They used to supply a foam sleeve which you could install through a hole in the seat tube, to prevent the housing inside the tube from slapping against the inside of the top tube. I know it was often left out because mechanics didn't want to bother with installing the foam sleeve. I don't know if you could do something similar with your bike, but the rattling is only annoying, not problematic.
