Is/should this hexnut on the crankarm get a cover?

If so, how to cover?

The previous arms have more space for a little plastic insert cap.

These arms are on tight with about 500 inch (or foot) pounds or torque. So they should be tight.

There's not much of a lip left for any kind of cap.

Are crankarm ends like this typically left exposed or is there a way to stick a cap on this to protect it more?

You can buy an 8mm hex head cover cap, they come in a few colours. I've never seen anyone use 'em on crank bolts but there's a cheap solution. If theft is a concern I'm sure there are security bolts available too.

Hex key (Allen) bolts like the one shown above are typically not covered.

Hex nuts or bolts on square taper cranks like the one in the linked image traditionally would've had a dust cover, typically threaded into the crank's extractor threads.

The ruberish gasket around the hex bolt takes the place of a cover.

You can also get a threaded piece to go around the hex bolt that would pull your crank off simply by unscrewing the crank arm without an added puller.

This would fit? I'm somewhat curious. It is keeps the weather and road grime out, that would be good.

No idea, it was literally the first thing that came up when I googled hex socket cover cap. I imagine it would plug the hex hole since that's what it says it does. For 9$ you can give it a shot and let us all know!

I don't want water and road grime going in there. Must not a big deal though.

I wonder there's a way to coat with something like wax, enough to stay on but easy enough to remove too.

That sounds like worrying about a lot of nothing. Are you biking in a salt or marine environment?

You could take it out and put in an old fashioned bolt and cover. But, even those aren't 100% waterproof. Most In many the tool hole goes through.

Or, perhaps something like this if you wish.
Classic Crank Bolts Square Tapered Self Extracting CrMo Silver Alloy Cap Retro | eBay
FSA Self Extracting Crank Bolts JIS M8 PR | eBay

Colors are available if you want bling.
