The original (1993) Rock Shox Quadra retaining ring question

Hopefully someone has one of these old classics laying around!

I have a '93 quadra I decided to put into use, so I overhauled it. Just one problem, the manual states the retaining ring holding the whole thing together is supposed to fit in a groove inside the fork leg. I neglected to see how deep the bushing assembly is supposed to fit inside the fork leg, so I have no idea if there really is a groove in the leg. If someone happens to remember this ancient fork or has one, I'd appreciate knowing how deep I need to seat this thing into the leg. I'm using a bushing tool to get it in. All the other quadra models use bolts instead of these rings.

Here is the manual: www.suspensionforkparts.net/rs_quadra.php

It's on page 7 figure 7C

Reading that makes it sound like the retaining ring is only for the '93 Quadra.

If you don't mind me asking, what makes you think you have a 93? That's VERY early for those forks.

It's definitely a 93. I found the groove, actually. I just wasn't going deep enough.
