Has anyone converted a 3x9 to a 1x10 or 1x11? thinking about switching my Giant Stance and wondering if there are any issues I need to know about. Thinking about putting a Oneup Oval 32 front chainring. I know it is 96 BCD but how do you get the spacing right for the chainline?

And also thinking about adding the Oneup ISCG05 Bash Guide. Does anyone know if this is compatible with the Stance frame?

I don't think your frame has ISCG tabs, so you probably won't be able to use the bash Guide. See the link below for an explanation about ISCG which should help you determine if your frame has the tabs or not.

For the other question, OneUp ships with shims that should help you get the proper chainline. The OneUp site has a diagram explaining it for the round rings, but it should he the same for the oval ones.

I took my Giant Cypress Hybrid from 3 x 9 to 1 x 9, it was all I ever used before converting. I have no shims on the drive side and a couple on the NDS, works good for me. I have both a 44t and a 48t single, I ride with the 48, I will switch to the 44 for the wife.

It gets done. already have an 11 speed drivetrain on the rear, ? just use a different crank . "3 by 9" have a triple ?, Yes? take off the outer and granny and there you go..

Right spacing/chainline is centered in line with the cassette middle , the gap between the 5th and 6th cog of 11 is the middle .

Then you buy all the other parts and wheel for the 11 speed stuff.

Since for most of the 20th Cen people got by with 10 speeds, I see no reason why if you want the simplicity a 1x is not reasonable with a 9 speed cluster on up.

That is why I only mentioned the front pieces in my post, I plan to start with 1x9 and only switch to 11 if I find I actually need a lower gear for climbs.

Not wishing to sound overly pedantic, but as the front derailleur didn't become popular until the 1950s, and the 1980s saw the intro of the 6 speed cassette and the triple, 10 speed bikes didn't exactly dominate the 20th Century time wise.

Yep, no ISCG tabs,, so I will go with a bash ring where the big ring was. I assume this will put the new narrow/wide right where my current center ring is and be right in the correct chainline.

Ordered the parts, should have them next Wed. Also ordered a clamp on chain guide, just to make sure it is all stable.
