105 FD problem
Hi Guys,
Rebuilding my wife's bike, and shifting from 10 speed Red/Force to 11 speed 105. All OK, except that the chain rubs the outer part of the FD cage when in the big chainring and the smallest 2-3 cogs. This is even with the limit screw all the way out. It's the small portion of the lateral wall of the cage that 'bends' inwards. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but not sure what. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Le...w1024-h1364-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/85...w1024-h1364-no |
Got it guys. Cable was not tight enough. Duh.

The new style Shimano FDs require a surprising amount of cable tension. Definitely had me questioning my tuning abilities until I came to my senses and just upped the tension. You are not alone.

Also, make sure the FD cable is threaded the right side. On the FD itself is a little sticker saying which side to put it on (thanks on the path for telling me about this!) |

Also, note that you'll always get some chain rub when cross-chaining, but the trim function will fix that.
