TRP Hylex Hydraulic hose change
 
I ordered a set of TRP Hylex road style hydraulic brakes for my 62cm Surly Disc Trucker. Only the front (left) one has arrived. Holding it in place, I can tell that the pre-bled/installed hose is about 5" too short. Checking TRP and other websites yields confusion as to what hose kit to buy. Also, I have never worked with bicycle hydraulics and need to get tools for the job as well. It looks like it should be fairly simple if I have all the right parts and tools at hand.

Does anyone have any helpful input for me?

I have run into the same issue when installing Hylex brakes on a Disc Trucker, which typically is set up with the handlebars/brake levers quite a bit higher and further away from the brake caliper than the typical cx bike that these brakes are usually installed on. You need the TRP hydraulic hose kit, which should give you 1800mm of brake hose, and all the necessary hardware. You will also need the TRP hydraulic bleed kit; I believe we have used the Tektro bleed kit (Tektro owns the TRP brand) for bleeding the brakes, but I believe the brake hose needs to be TRP specifically. You need a hose cutter as well. One other thing: the brake pads that come on the Hylex brakes leave a lot to be desired IME, they can be replaced with Shimano M05 resin pads for better and quieter braking. Once that's done, the Hylex brakes are as good as the best mountain hydraulics, they're the best full hydraulic drop bar disc brake on the market IMO. Good luck-

RTFM.

I changed hoses on my Magura HS 33 brakes, to increase length , it requires a single use ring, they call an "olive".

That is compressed around the hose as the fittings are turned, so you have to buy the replacement compression rings.
that seals the hose ends.

All hose hardware is included with the TRP hose kit.

Having a few extra olives on hand keeps things a whole lot smoother if you make a mistake and need to re-terminate or find that you need to shorten a hose a little.

Sorry for the thread bump, but I think it's relevant.

This doesn't help the OP much (hopefully you solved your issue), but it appears that TRP has listened to the complaints about the hose length on the Hylex front brake assembly. I just got a set of the "new" Hylex RS, and they now ship with a 1000mm hose on the front, a spec which is printed right on the retail box label.

The product description at Universal Cycles said 800mm, which I estimated would be a few inches too short on my touring frame. But that was clearly a leftover from the old Hylex product description because, when I installed these, I ended up with a very generous loop of hose extending well past my head tube from right to left. Looks a little sloppy but I'll probably leave it be for now unless it gets in the way or until I need to bleed them, whichever comes first.

Anyway, according to the TRP website, the original Hylex are discontinued. The new "RS" model appears to be exactly the same thing, but with some drillium on the lever blades and a slightly different color scheme on the levers and calipers. And the longer hose of course. Also, I'd like to upgrade to a Gevenalle system some day, so I checked with them to see if their Hylex upgrade kit would work with the RS. They confirmed that the lever parts were completely interchangeable and even sent me a pic of a bike with upgraded RS levers.
