Campy 2x10 converted to 1x10 ?

I have a CAMPY ULTRA TORQUE 34/50 crankset with a 12/25 cassette. shifts wonderfully. i do about 3 to 4,000 miles per year, getting ready to replace both the chain and cassette.

while i'm at it, i'd like to try converting it to a 1x10. the new Sram narrow wide chainrings come in 46t, when paired with an readily available 11x29 cassette i get almost the entire range, close enough on the lowest gears and actually a tad higher than the current high of 50/12. I know others have had problems with the UT crank but it has been absolutely wonderful creek free BB for me for many years, so i don't want to replace that.

my campy 5 arm crankset has the 5th bolt thru the backside of crank arm, needing a 113 BCD pattern there with 110 BCD on all other 4 bolts. this i think i can fix with either skipping the bolt altogether or some milling, not too worried about this aspect.

however, would there be chain line problems? I assume i'd mount the ring on the other side, but should i mount on the inner? other issues?

I did a similar 1x10 campy on my dean ti gravel, using a 42t campy inner ring and a bash guard to help prevent chain coming off and have had no issues, thou that bike is paired with A 12/25. any info greatly appreciated.

I would strongly suggest that you do not omit any of the bolts.

You probably would not have significant CL issues but it may need to be tweaked a bit to get it perfect.

Missed the part about you having an external BB system. That limits your flexibility.

Chainline is optimized to have it fall Between the 2 chainrings of a double .

the chain will have to flex sideways more to get to the small end of the cassette.

Middle of a Triple, because it sits centered, is a better chainline for a 1 by.

any thing but a Campag chainring and you have to Ovalize the chainring Bolt hole

Obviously to fit the displaced to 113 bolt's hole in the crank.
