New road tyres, confused about sizing and rims

Hi all,

I have a trekking bike that I use and now it is time to replace don't even know how old tyres (probably 6+ years) but they are having bigger and bigger wall cracks..

On the bike I have this rims: https://velospec.com:8080/components/alexrims/ta19

And currently I have Continental Sport Contact ( https://www.starbike.com/images/Conti...ortcontact.jpg )

On the tyre it says: 32-622 and 28 x 1 1/4 x 1 3/4

I would like a similar slick road tyre but I am so confused about the sizing that my head hurts now.

I would like the same width or if possible thinner one if it would fit on the rims.

I've read that 32-662 and 700x32C are the same. Could I fit 700x28C on my rims?

The key here is the "622" dimension. Yes, you can fit 700X28C tires, how well they work will depend upon the width of your rims.
Tire Sizing Systems Scroll down for a chart of recommended tire width vs rim width; you can go outside of the recommended sizes within reason.

Thank you sir!

Inner rim width is 18 based on that site of my rim plus I'll measure it just to be sure.. So based on those graphs, 28C would probably be the smallest width that I could use.

Again thank you, I know this has been talked and talked way too much but I just got confused as I've read probably too much and it helps when someone tells you directly and confirms what you thought but was not sure.

What do you want to accomplish by going to narrower tires?

OP, with your 18c rim should able to fit 23-32c range without problems as long as you get tires for 700c rim, mount and seat it correctly.

Yes, 32-622 is the same as 700x32c.

And don't worry, if you unsure about fitting, your LBS should be able to help you replace new tires anyway

Nothing really, narrower tyre = less comfortable so.. there is just more choice in the shops near by as I find it hard to find any 32c tyres in stock. But I'll just buy it online now so, doesn't really matter, will buy 32c as I like it.
