Chain too long?
Hi. Recently I put a new chain on my bike, and matched the amount of links to the original one. It looks to me like the new chain is hanging a little too much though. What do you guys think?

Put it in small-small. That's the only way to tell if a chain is too long.
Or big-big, that's the way to tell if a chain is more than big enough. |

As long as the RD can take up the slack in small/small it is NOT too long.

Off topic: are those extra spokes on the chainstay?
Brilliant! :) |

Chain slap guard at least .. hard to say if the spoke length is right.

On a derailleur equipped bike, the sag in the chain is dictated by the amount of tension caused by the spring in the rear derailleur and is therefore never a reliable way to determine if you have the correct chain length. It can be an indication of a damaged derailleur, but yours looks fine.

On a side note: your big ring looks like it's installed the wrong way around. On purpose?

While we're at it, the FD is mounted too high as well.
Wonder how many other things we'd see with a full pic of the bike... |
