Maintanance & Repair book recommendation

Here are two older books from 1988 that are well written, easy to understand, and show you how to fix bikes with common tools:

The Bicycle Repair Book and The Mountain Bike Book

Both were written by Rob Van der Plas.

Obviously, these books are 15 years old, so some of the info is a little obsolete, BUT most of it is still right-on and solid, man (retro verbiage intended).

Seriously, if you see these books around, pick them up. They are meant for the 'Can-do' type person who just doesn't have a lot of bike knowledge yet. These are not books for the expert looking to learn something new.

Also, see Rob Van der Plas' website: http://www.vanderplas.net/

Thanks for the recommendation.
My local 1/2 price books has a bunch of these.
I scored a Sloan's,and a Lemonds Complete Book of Cycling
for $9.00 (for both), also the new Serious Cycling by E. Burke
was $10. but I think that was mispriced, the next day they were
gone. I'm still waiting for the Brandt complete bicycle wheel
to show up.
